Observers play a vital role in the development of officials at all levels. They are in effect the custodians of the Laws of the Game, ensuring they are applied to a high standard. Observations play an increasing part in the promotion and appointment of officials throughout the game. Formal Observations commence for referees when they apply for their first promotion, from Level 7 to 6. Prior to applying for promotion, it is advisable for referees to seek Mentor support and advice to ensure they can achieve the required standard before entering the process.
